Wall Street Journal gets it right in editorial on government "bailout" for newspapers

While it may have been predictable that The Wall Street Journal would take this position on a government "bailout" for newspapers, it's still worth reading. The paper's editorial board is correct. The path to success for journalists won't be found by asking for handouts. It will be developed by creative entrepreneurs - and they will emerge - creating new ways of connecting communities and providing them with needed information and news. The mission can still be to inform, inspire and entertain. But in this new world journalists will also be able to connect and help the public participate in the conversation. Journalists will be as much conveners or moderators as they'll be news sources.
